5 Activities to keep your toddler active, healthy & fit

Have you ever wonder what activities will work for your toddler? Well, here are some activities that your toddler or younger children will love.

  • Toddlercise
  • Zumba
  • Yoga(strength/balance)
  • Tag(cardio)
  • Pool

Toddlercise is an exercise that encourages your active toddler to develop and utilize their gross motor skills. This activity will allow your little one develop their skills, such as over under hard-eye coordination, skipping, balance, hopping, jumping and running.(courtesy of MWR Pensacola family fitness center)

Zumba (zumbini):

A course you can pull this awesome activity up on You tube or you can definitely attend a Zumbini class. This activity encourages your toddler to move around to the beat of their own drum. I believe it teaches them individuality. With Zumbini your toddler is building the cognitive, social, and motor skills. This is an awesome opportunity to combine learning and fun.

We all have that toddler that loves to sit on their  hand or lay on the floor. I figured why not teach my toddler the various yoga poses in a safe and encouraging manner. I went out and bought my daughter a beautiful mat and she loves it! This is definitely a bonding activity that your child will not outgrow.

Tag your it!

I know everyone is familiar with this centuries old activity that we all have tried as kids. Tag has been something that we play inside/outdoors, but I encourage this to be an outdoor activity so that everyone can get some fresh air.

Teaching your kids to swim is awesome because they will boost their confidence and it can reduce the risk of drowning. When your little one is confident then they are less likely to get stressed about the pool and they will enjoy the experience.

My hip replacement journey at 27

If you guys can tell by the topic I am currently going through my own hip replacement journey.  Back in May I asked my doctor to go to physical therapy because I was having knee pain and I figure that would help with the pain I was having. It got to the point that all of the physical therapist were trying to figure out what is going on with this girl’s knee, but to our surprise it wasn’t the knee it was the hip. So I called the doctor to request an MRI or Z-Ray and within two days they were back with the final diagnosis. I was diagnosed with severe osteoarthritis, they even told me that this form of arthritis was more common among 80 year old patients. Y’all when I said I was emotional, I cried because it just really hurt especially when they told me I can run anymore or walk for long periods of time. I was like, but I’m only 27 and I have a 1 year old that needs me.

I’m definitely like the type to sit around and do nothing, so I can’t imagine being told that I can’t be active anymore, but I am not getting my hopes up because I am motivated to continue living a healthy and active lifestyle. One thing that did give me hope is that I can continue doing my yoga practice.

Now fast forward to July 20 (also my hubby’s birthday) I met with the PA who will be assisting my surgeon who will removing my hip through an anterior approach which is suppose to have a better effect on healing and movement. Yayy!!! Then I am hit with another kicker you can do Yoga for 12 weeks post surgery and I was hurt, but I didn’t let that keep me down I told the PA there are various other yoga methods that I can use to stick with my yoga practice, especially since I didn’t I want to be laying around the house loosing hope of all the things I learned during my practice. Y’all when I say yoga gives me hope, it really does, I started eating healthier, I am less stressed and involve my daughter in my practice as a bonding strategy.

So come the end of August I will be embracing my new hip that I believe will not prohibit my yoga practice, but improve it!

I really want to encourage my fellow readers, that you may be hit with various obstacles but it is up to you to figure out how you are going to make a difference.

Eating Healthy

Eating Healthy

On this journey I mentioned that I have changed the way I ate. When you change the way you eat you definitely can change the way you feel and possibly have some physical changes, On this journey to change I have lost over 10 pounds. My diet consisted of spinach, kale and more water. A course, I cut out some bread, no sugar and I increased my exercise with Yoga. I felt a change mentally and physically. I was feeling one with myself and I was beginning to understand my purpose as it related to my business and the way I communicated with my family.

Being healthy is really beneficial because my husband and I started meal prepping. When you prep your meals for the week it can make a busy work week so much easier. Plus freezing ready to go meals are easy to prepare too and less stressful than wondering what you are going to cook for the week. We must find things that will make our lives easier and healthy at the same time. If you are constantly trying to figure out what you want to eat than you can go to Pinterest. Pinterest has helped me with plenty of ideas for food.

As I read of this blog post and I noticed I didn’t give any stats towards how much fat is in something or if something is organic. I basically went by my instincts and hoped for the best. Usually your senses will tell you if something something isn’t right. This change isn’t going to happen overnight, but continue to have faith about your change. Good Luck!
