Becoming A Millennial Mompreneur

Becoming A Millennial Mompreneur

I’m sure that you’re wondering, what the heck do you mean by becoming a mom and entrepreneurship. Well in order to become a Mompreneur, it starts with being a mom first. Sometimes the roles are reverse when pursuing entrepreneurship and mommyhood. When I started my consulting business, I found out that I was 9 weeks pregnant! Being pregnant while pursuing my business gave me the drive to work hard and to make my business a success.

When planning for motherhood, here are a few tips to consider for beginning entrepreneurship.

Plan accordingly: During my pregnancy I worked until the day I had my daughter. I think I had more energy while I was pregnant compared to now. I planned my events and appointments arounded my pregnancy. Being a millennial mompreneur has definitely changed compared to 10 + years ago. You can raise your little one from the comfort of your home, chilling in your pj’s. Plus if I had an event come up my husband and I would team up to spend time with our daughter as I worked.

Ask for help: I know as mothers we are able to conquer great task, but that doesn’t mean you should stress yourself out and take on motherhood and business on your own. If you are comfortable with outsourcing child care, then you should go for it. My mother in law and my mother are very supportive when it comes to my daughter, they love to spoil her.

Don’t Give Up: When things get tough we can’t run away from the issue, you must find the balance. When I am searching for balance I usually make a list of the things that I want to accomplish and prioritize them around what I can get done before my toddlers nap and what should be done during nap time. Plus you always have the time when everyone has gone to bed and you have that grand moment of peace and quiet. Considering putting your social media platforms into the hands of a social media strategist or virtual assistant. Make things easier and not hard, ensure that your business model fits the lifestyle that you want to have.

Find A Outlet for Stress: One of my favorite things to do when I get stressed is to go to yoga. Honestly I go to yoga even if I’m not stress out. Yoga gives me the opportunity to clear my mind and come up with new ideas. Another outlet is that I love shopping for things that will help my business, such educational books, planners, and desk nic nacs. I also love to go church which is a constant outlet in which I can pray and worship with my friends and family. I encourage you to find something that will work for you.

Becoming a millennial mom/mompreneur definitely comes with its own reward because you are able to become involved with other like minded mompreneurs through social media groups and do more adventurous things such as living abroad running your business rather than staying home. Just because you become a mom doesn’t mean you have to stop living your best life. I love you go to mompreneur networking events and meet so many like minded moms. I hope this has been an awesome read for the millennial mompreneur looking for guidance.

Self Care For 2018

2017 has come to an end and it is time to embrace 2018. I’m pretty sure that this past year has been an interesting roller coaster ride. This year my primary focus has been set on my family, which is not a bad thing but I didn’t set time aside for me.I didn’t do much to my hair or makeup, and I decided that I’m going to set more time for me.
So I am encouraging you to focus on Self Care.

If you can’t afford to do some of the things on your self care list here are a 10 tips to practice self care in 2018.

Here are some tips to make sure that you are taking care of yourself:

Coffee-time: I know that we all have experience the “don’t talk me until I have my coffee”. Coffee-time for me is sacred and it definitely gives me life. I mostly drink our coffee in the morning which gives me the opportunity to reflect on my day and to figure out what adventure my daughter and I would embark on.

Massage/facial: Getting a massage or facial can definitely relax the body and relieve stress. It also releases the toxins and leads to recovering with muscles pain and it releases endorphins & enhances your mood.

Bubble bath w/ aromatherapy(essential oils): My favorite essential oils are Eucalyptus, lavender, and lemongrass; they hold the healing properties of muscle aches, colds, anxiety, and mood swings.Enjoy a large glass of wine and soak those worries away.

Mani/Pedi: If you get the opportunity to leave the house for a few hours take the time to get a much needed mani/pedi. You need to relax, relate and release; you can’t expect to be helpful to your family or those around you if you don’t take time for yourself. Do you!

Yoga/Meditation: Yoga and meditation has definitely changed my life, especially when I get stressed out or I just want to be healthy in my mind and body. With meditation I am able to reflect on the things that may affect me whether it is parenting or balancing entrepreneurship. I love how I am able to strengthen my body through yoga and use meditation for self awareness.

Journal: Journaling is definitely something that I encourage everyone to do. You are able to be creative or you can write about your troubles to help let them go. I know that we all have moments where we feel that no one understands what you are going through, but if you write it down then you are able to free yourself from that burden.

Lazy Day: Recently I took the time to do almost absolutely nothing, I was determined to relax and not to run myself crazy. Having a lazy day gives you the opportunity to take care of yourself and to do less as possible.

Vacation: Pack you an overnight bag and get you can an Airbnb and go have fun. Take the time not planning your getaway.

Get dolled up: Recently I’ve got back into makeup and I decided to make this my mandatory mommy-time. I am loving how I am able to be creative and enjoy the time to myself. You can get dolled up and you don’t have to go anywhere.

Binge watch movies/shows: During this holiday season I’ve been binge watching everything HallMark. I love a romantic Christmas story, especially when they have an adorable story line. Hallmark is so great even when they have the same story line but it gets addictive.

Some of my favorite sites to use for finding discounted hotels, spa, hair packages, and etc is Groupon, Living social and Airbnb.Check them out! (This is not sponsored)

I hope that my 2018 Self care tips are helpful to you. You have to remember that you need to make time to slow down and make time for you!

Traveling with a toddler “post Surgery”

Hey Y’all!

Sooo… my daughter and I recently went on a cross country adventure to Los Angeles. When I tell y’all the first flight of the day was hell ( lol).

When I say she raised sand for 2 hours straight! She was unhappy and indecisive. I even downloaded all of her favorite movies and shows. I even packed her favorite snacks. Nothing really worked 😦

There was even a rude passenger in front of us who beat on the wall every time she got upset. To some people’s perception my daughter appears to be older but I have to remind people that she is only a year old.(she will be two in December)

She has flown before when she first turned one, and she was still in the infant stage. She would nap at any slight movement. Now!!! Nope!

I really prepared for this trip by snack and sippy cup. I purchased the Mommy and me handcuffs. Puzzles, crayons, favorite toys, and her blanket “baby”.IMG-4869

I purchased my travel cuffs through Amazon for $10.

Travel essentials are key to your success.

Returning home:

We flew out of LAX at 6am and we weren’t due to Miami until 4:30pm, with a connection flight to Charlotte NC. My daughter slept for the first few hours and then….

On this flight home I packed her “baby”, her mess free coloring set, and her Minnie Mouse plush toy. A course our snacks on the trip is popcorn, goldfish and cheese puffs “Cheeto dust lol”.

This trip home was very successful because Mariah adjusted to the flight and we even lucked up with their being a spare seat in our row and they allowed my daughter to have it (# winning).IMG-4846

Even though Mariah is turning two in a couple months, we have decided that it is time to buy her own seat. Mariah is really strong and she is really fast, so with her sitting in my lap post surgery was probably not one of my best ideas.

Mariah earned her wings!

Key points:

  • Schedule your flights around naptime/bedtime
  • Pack your toddler’s favorite activities/toys
  • The flight attendants will offer snacks, but toddlers to get bored. Pack their favorite go to snacks, ie goldfish, graham crackers, gummy snacks, pre popped popcorn, and juice.
  • Ignore the mean looks or concerns of those on the flight who get upset when your child is irritable “the hell with them”.

Post Surgery:

I decided that I wanted to go to my sister’s funeral so of a course I had to go through the channels of getting the approval of family, doctors and my physical therapist. Everyone was really stressed about the possibility of blood clots or not being able to commute on and off of the plane. I did take the precautions of ordering wheelchair assistance. Also on the flight I performed my leg exercises to build my leg strength, I even left my walker and cane at home. I felt that dragging all of that around would be stressful and quite annoying.

Traveling with a toddler has definitely been an experience especially when your LO is experiencing things for the first time. She was interactive with the flight attendants and she was able to spend time with her grandparents and cousin.

It was really awesome being able to spend time with family and build on a business. We initially went out to Los Angeles due to the passing of my sister Toni, but I was able to use this time to bond and work on various business opportunities. Sometimes you have to make the best out of a sad situation.

I believe that if you continue to travel to with your LO then it will become something that they are accustomed  to. Things will get a little easier, hey no one said travelings with kids was easy. Hopefully me sharing my experience with you will help.
