Self Care For 2018

2017 has come to an end and it is time to embrace 2018. I’m pretty sure that this past year has been an interesting roller coaster ride. This year my primary focus has been set on my family, which is not a bad thing but I didn’t set time aside for me.I didn’t do much to my hair or makeup, and I decided that I’m going to set more time for me.
So I am encouraging you to focus on Self Care.

If you can’t afford to do some of the things on your self care list here are a 10 tips to practice self care in 2018.

Here are some tips to make sure that you are taking care of yourself:

Coffee-time: I know that we all have experience the “don’t talk me until I have my coffee”. Coffee-time for me is sacred and it definitely gives me life. I mostly drink our coffee in the morning which gives me the opportunity to reflect on my day and to figure out what adventure my daughter and I would embark on.

Massage/facial: Getting a massage or facial can definitely relax the body and relieve stress. It also releases the toxins and leads to recovering with muscles pain and it releases endorphins & enhances your mood.

Bubble bath w/ aromatherapy(essential oils): My favorite essential oils are Eucalyptus, lavender, and lemongrass; they hold the healing properties of muscle aches, colds, anxiety,and mood swings.Enjoy a large glass of wine and soak those worries away.

Mani/Pedi: If you get the opportunity to leave the house for a few hours take the time to get a much needed mani/pedi. You need to relax, relate and release; you can’t expect to be helpful to your family or those around you if you don’t take time for yourself. Do you!

Yoga/Meditation: Yoga and meditation has definitely changed my life, especially when I get stressed out or I just want to be healthy in my mind and body. With meditation I am able to reflect on the things that may affect me whether it is parenting or balancing entrepreneurship. I love how I am able to strengthen my body through yoga and use meditation for self awareness.

Journal: Journaling is definitely something that I encourage everyone to do. You are able to be creative or you can write about your troubles to help let them go. I know that we all have moments where we feel that no one understands what you are going through, but if you write it down then you are able to free yourself from that burden.

Lazy Day: Recently I took the time to do almost absolutely nothing, I was determined to relax and not to run myself crazy. Having a lazy day gives you the opportunity to take care of yourself and to do less as possible.

Vacation: Pack you an overnight bag and get you can an Airbnb and go have fun. Take the time not planning your getaway.

Get dolled up: Recently I’ve got back into makeup and I decided to make this my mandatory mommy-time. I am loving how I am able to be creative and enjoy the time to myself. You can get dolled up and you don’t have to go anywhere.

Binge watch movies/shows: During this holiday season I’ve been binge watching everything HallMark. I love a romantic Christmas story, especially when they have an adorable story line. Hallmark is so great even when they have the same story line but it gets addictive.

Simple Holiday Recipes

Happy Holidays!!!

Are you feeling stumped on what you might be cooking for the Holidays? Well you have come to the right place. Here are some recipes that I share with my family and now you can share them with your family too !

*Each recipe can feed 4-6 people!

Mama’s Homemade Stuffing
-1 box of cornbread jiffy mix
-½ Bag of toast
-1 medium onion
-2 diced celery stick
– 2 eggs
-1 cup Chicken broth
-1 stick butter

Bake the jiffy mix according to the directions on the box.
Toast the ½ bag of bread
Tear the toast by hand or your can cut it to your preference.
Break apart the cornbread
Chop your onion and celery, then combine all of the dry ingredients to a bowl.
Pour the stuffing mix into a casserole dish and top the stuffing with the butter and chicken broth.
Bake the stuffing for 30-45 mins at 350*F.

3-Cheese Mac N’ Cheese
-1 box Elbow Pasta
-Cheese : 1 8 oz cream cheese, Velveeta, and Mozzarella
-½ cup Milk
-1 teaspoon of Paprika
-3 tsp of butter (stick butter)


Boil the pasta for 5 -10 mins. Strain pasta and toss with butter, then add the cheeses & paprika. Add ingredients to a casserole dish and pour the milk over pasta mixture.
Bake the Mac n’ Cheese for 30-40 mins at 350F.

Yummy Sweet Potato Pie
-1 lb. of sweet potatoes
-½ cup butter (melted)
-1 cup brown sugar or granulated white sugar
-½ tsp nutmeg
-½ tsp cinnamon
-1 tsp Vanilla
-2 eggs
-unbaked pie shells


Bake sweet potatoes in the oven for 1-1.5 hours at 400*F. When the potatoes cool peel the skin from the potatoes and mash them. After you have mashed the potatoes add the butter and the rest of the unused ingredients. Pour the pie mixture into the shells. Bake the pies at 325 F for 23-30 mins until firm.


Honey Glazed Ham

-Brown Sugar
– 1 can Pineapple slices


Purchased a pre-sliced ham and scorn the ham. Put the cloves in the ham at the intersecting points of the scoring. Mix the honey and brown sugar in a bowl, then pour the honey mixture over the ham. Lastly, add the pineapple slices to the ham and hold in place with toothpicks.
*Place in crock pot for 2-3 hours on low.
*Bake in oven fully cover with foil for 1-1.15 hours at 325 *F. Baste the ham every 20 mins.

No Bake Cheesecake
-1 8oz. cream cheese
-1 cup of cool whip
-1 cup of sugar
-1 tsp vanilla
-Graham cracker crust
-Canned filling (my favorites are strawberry and blueberry)


Blend together the ingredients except the fruit filling. Then add the mixture to the pie shell. Make sure that mixture is smooth and flat then top cheesecake with your desired fruit filling. Lastly, put it in the refrigerator to set for up 2 hours.


Sweet Cranberry BBQ Meatballs
(sweet BBQ-jelly meatballs)

-2 pkgs of frozen meatballs
-1 bottle BBQ sauce(your choice)
-1 can cranberry sauce


*Add of the ingredients to your crock pot and cook for 1-2 hours on high.

*Another homemade meatball recipe is to use fresh ground turkey or ground beef, then season with Italian seasoning and salt & pepper to taste. Add 2 eggs and 1 cup of Panko bread crumbs. Form the mixture into small balls(I use a cookie dough scoop). Bake in the oven for 30 mins at 350*F until brown,then put the meatballs in the Crock pot and BBQ sauce and grape jelly.

Post Hip Replacement Recovery (The First 7 days)

So…as I’ve mention in my previous blog post My hip replacement journey at 27 I will be getting the anterior hip replacement surgery.

Day of Surgery:

I had to report to the hospital at 8 a.m. to start my intake and presurgical testing. Basically, they had me take a pregnancy test and blood work. My husband and daughter accompanied me to the hospital and it definitely was an emotional moment for my daughter because she was able to come with me. I went into surgery at 11 a.m. and woke up at 2 p.m. The recovery nurse was really sweet because she noticed that I was emotional due to the anesthesia. My nerves were already everywhere before the surgery, I literally felt as if I was going to pee my pants (lol). My family wasn’t allowed to see me until 5 p.m. that evening.It felt so good to hold my baby. Usually when you go through something so intense such as surgery you want to be surrounded by positivity and innocence. It was a relief to hold my baby girl after not being able to see her for over 8 hours. It was so sweet because she was napping and the last time I held her like that was when I gave birth to her.

A course throughout my surgery day I was heavily medicated and the medicine they sent me home with keeps me drowsy. During my one day stay in the hospital I was pumped with tons of fluid and antibiotics The doctor had me hooked up to a catheter for about 24 hours and I wasn’t allowed to discharge from the hospital until I pee’d on my own (TMI-lol).


Post-Op Day 1(Discharge Day):


On my Post-Op day I met with my surgical team and for some reason the youngest doctor that it was a good idea to poke me in my leg. Y’all when I tell you this doctor almost got punched, omg! My nurse even said that he was wrong for poking me in the thigh and she would have reacted too. The head orthopedic surgeon who is my doctor came to brief me about my surgery and he told me that my hip was worst than what the x-rays had shown. Basically, he compared everything to a 90 year old patient and I far from 90 especially with no real explanation to why my hip deteriorated.

Around noon that day I met with the hospital’s physical therapist to begin my walking journey. I was so scared to move on top of scared that I might fall. It felt so strange to be walking on something that was literally put into my body over 12 hours prior. My therapist encouraged me to focus and to have faith because he was there to hold me up!

I know that some people may be thinking that staying in the hospital for a day or two will seem like a strange break from reality but it was somewhat relaxing because the true reality of me returning home was about to start. My husband basically has to tackle mom/dad parenting responsibilities.  


Recovery Days 2-7:

During the last 5 days I had to use my handy dandy walker. It is definitely a trip because it is basically my legs until my actually legs get stronger. I currently have a scar and bandages going from my hip to the upper half of my thigh. In traditional surgeries the incision would be more towards the side of the leg towards the butt aka the Posterior approach.

I do have a Physical Therapist that comes to my home to help build my muscles in my leg and to establish balance. She is totally awesome, she pushes me but not to the point where I feel like quitting. I feel that my driving force behind me getting better is to be able to hang out with my daughter because I can tell that she misses our routine, but she is also enjoying the one on one time with her daddy. My husband has had to step up and take the reigns of mommy and daddy.

This surgery was probably one of the hardest that I’ve ever had to work at and be extra cautious. When my doctor told me that I should have gotten a new hip along time ago, especially since when he took the actual hip out he said it was worst than what was shown on the x-rays. I really wish that I could have gotten a picture to see what had been causing me so much pain over the years. He compared my hip to an 90 year old woman. Wow! Honestly, my advice to those who are having any type of pain whether it is your hip, back or knee check it out! It is important to take care of the issue before it cause further damage.

Also, research every procedure so that you don’t feel lost and so that you can be knowledgeable about your health.
